Belly Boundaries

Jan 25, 2016

Dear people that are not carrying my baby, I feel like we should talk about a few things and perhaps clear the air. Apparently, my belly, and the tiny being within, is now fair game for strangers and family alike to tell me everything they know about children, childbirth and the raising of said child. While I completely understand the good intentions behind these comments and actions, I need to set a few belly boundaries so that I can salvage what is left of my mommy-to-be sanity. As you have made me well aware, you KNOW how hard pregnancy can be - let’s not make it more stressful than it needs to be.

For decades it has been widely known that sugar and our health might not be the best of friends. It’s the New Year’s Resolution we all aim for when we are looking to improve our health and possibly drop extra holiday pounds that sneak up on us. Eating healthy is the best way to reach these goals, but it is always so much easier than we anticipate.

You’ve made it! The major holidays are over, the families are gone, and now all you have left to do is put away decorations and ring in the New Year. But just as soon as you rid one major source of anguish, here comes the next dilemma: What’s your resolution? All too often, resolutions become the place where we dump half-cocked notions of self-improvement only to be frustrated with ourselves when February rolls around and we’ve made little to no progress on our goals.

In our last blog post, we talked a lot about some ways we could stay physically active to make sure that age didn’t define our quality of life. Well, there’s something else you should be doing to make sure you’re bones and joints are staying healthy as well. We know, we know, you’ve heard it all before, but Osteoporosis is a serious problem, and you shouldn’t just brush off your annual bone density screening.
